Founder and Chairman of the Board of TLI Foundation Speaks on Leadership During Healthcare Crisis.
TLI Shares Strategies for Effective Leadership During COVID-19 Pandemic and Other Healthcare Crises
We are all in this together but working together is a different matter.
This was one of many key messages delivered by Bill Oldham, founder and chairman of the Board, Thought Leadership and Innovation Foundation (TLI), during his presentation, “Leading in a Healthcare Crisis.” Oldham was a “virtual” keynote presenter at the recent Leading in a Healthcare Crisis Conference presented by the International Council for Small Business (ICSB Global) and The George Washington University.
Bill provided his perspectives on the current COVID-19 pandemic crisis based upon his experience leading three organizations at a board level, including AscellaHealth, a specialty pharmacy management company, TLI Foundation, a non-profit focused on health transformation and economic empowerment, and Oldham Global, a family office investment firm.
Each organization has been impacted differently, requiring a distinct leadership response with a few similarities that apply across every type of business and organization: 1) everything requires cash, 2) fear is pervasive 3) people are social animals with a deep need to connect.
Strategies for Working Together
Bill pointed out that to effectively work together during this time of global crisis, it’s important to listen to one another, help channel fear into positive action, demand data-driven decisions, see all the people and avoid false choices based on an unproven “new normal.”
Despite its devastating impact on populations and businesses worldwide, COVID-19 is providing an opportunity to reassess, discover and strengthen the fabric of large and small businesses, urban and rural communities and every type of organization across the country. It’s also a chance to mitigate the brunt of future health crises.
TLI is currently eliciting the input of an extensive group of local business and healthcare leaders and serving as a repository for information and guidance needed in the event of a significant healthcare crisis. By developing partnerships with these leaders in public and private businesses, the outcome will be a better-prepared community.
Galvanizing Business and Healthcare Leaders
Experts believe that the world’s leaders are ill-prepared for outbreaks of infectious diseases, and businesses are unprepared for the significant economic, social and political disruption.
TLI exists to change this. Our Community Collaboratives are designed to galvanize business and healthcare leaders to deal head-on with a healthcare emergency without any hesitation or time lost due to a lack of preparation. By working together and taking action now, we can learn from this tragic pandemic and move forward to repair and effect positive change.
